Athens is enjoying a bit of a renaissance right now with a stream of new boutique hotels opening.

An entry level boutique hotel is the Modernist located in Kolonaki, close to the high end shopping streets.
If you like a hotel that does great breakfasts and has a roof terrace with a view of the Acropolis then check out Ergon House.
And if money is no object then the recently launched The Dolli is grabbing all the latest headlines as Athen's new luxury hotspot.

Now you've sorted out your accommodation..what are the hightlights to see?
You can start your journey at Syntagma Square and stroll down Mitropoleous Street until you reach Monistraki Square where the Flea Market is located.
Then take a left otwards the Agora (Roman market place) where there are several outdoor cafes and restaurants where you can chill out with a coffee or lunch. Then you head slightly uphill towards the Acropolis which is on your left and stop at the ticket office to purchase a ticket to see the ancient Parthenon temple where Socrates, Aristotle and Plato held court. if you have time, spend an hour or two in the Acropolis Museum.
Afterwards, work your way towards the leafy historic Plaka neighbourhood which is full of laid back charm.

Other cultural highlights include the Ancient Olympic stadium, Lycabettus Hill for a spectacular view of the Athens skyline particularly at sunset..

Athens is a ittle anarchic with it's own style and outlook..offering energy and good vibes to those who embrace it's way of living. It may lack the grand boulevards of other European capitals but it has interesting and walkable neighbourhoods.
As mentioned, Kolonaki is where the trendy boutiques many with Greek designers are to be found. Pysrri is the upcoming hipster neighbourhood if you like your nightlife vibrant with graffiti everywhere offering a free art show on the move..

If you fancy some beach life, after a few days in the city, a quick 30 min. taxi ride will take you to Vouliagemini, the upscale beach suburb of Athens on the Athenian Riviera.

Great boutique hotels to stay at are The Margi or the Azure, both within a short walk of the Astir Beach Club where you can spend the day on a front row sunbed overlooking the sea, it's just like being on a Greek island..They also have some great restaurants for lunch or a coffee time out or just let the staff bring you cold beers and snacks to your sun bed.
