Perhaps the most unexpected outdoor highlight of Athens lies along the coast. The Athens Riviera is a series of beaches and marinas, from the southern suburbs of Glyfada, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza… extending all the way down to Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon on the southeastern tip of Attica.

Most people stay at Vouliagmeni approx. 20 mins from downtown Athens which has a cluster of 4-5* boutique hotels - all within easy walk of the Astir Beach Club which is a fabulous place to spend the day at. Set on a sandy beach in a shimmering cove, you might think you are on a Greek island. Here two beds & umbrella cost from approx. 30-80 euros for the day and there is a great beach restaurant and bar as well as some small beachwear boutiques and on demand drinks service to your loungers. A top spot to watch the sun go down..

At night there are some good restaurants such as Rafale, Cafe Ithaki as well as a small strip which has about half a dozen places to eat and drink, from gourmet greek street food to Italian specialities.
